Importance of Submitting Documentation for Verification

Documents Verified


Individuals who provide proof of their self-employed status will be recognized as verified SPK Self-Employed Members. These verified SPK Self-Employed Members can contribute to both the SPK Member Account and SPK Retirement Account and will receive Government Match-Up contributions. They will benefit from both accounts for pre-retirement savings and be eligible for SPK Annuity payments during retirement.

Documents Unverified


If a Member's Self-Employed status is not verified, their contributions will be credited only to the SPK Member Account. They will not receive the Government Match-Up contribution but will still be eligible for benefits from the SPK Member Account only.

Runners

Registration certificate from Ministry of Transportation and Info-communications (MTIC).

Online Sellers 

Registration certificate from ROCBN (Registry of Companies and Business Names Division).

Farmers

- Proof of documents from Agriculture and Agrifood Department – for farmer.

- Certification from Ministry of Primary Resources & Tourism (MPRT).

Fishermen 

Proof of documents such as license/permit from Department of Fisheries (Fisheries Order, 2009).

Dart Drivers, Taxi 

- Certification from Dart.

- Driving License from Land Transport Department.

Stall/ Tamu/ Market Vendors

Contract and/or receipt of payment of rental space (stall/tamu/market).

Tour Guide 

Certification from Ministry of Primary Resources & Tourism (MPRT).

Tutor

Certificate Of Registration of Educational Institution from the Private Education Section, Ministry of Education (MOE).

Daycare

Daycare License from Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS). Daycare License from Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS). 

Insurance Agents

- Proof of registration as agents under Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB). 

- Certification from Insurance Agency i.e Brunei Insurance & Takaful Association (BITA). 

Alternative documentation

Self-employed individuals who do not have the required documentation can provide a Registration Certificate from the ROCBN (Registry of Companies and Business Names Division) as a minimum document for verification.

Note: 

If a SPK Self-Employed Member’s verification document expires, they will not receive the Match-Up contribution benefit. Any contributions received will be credited as voluntary contributions into their SPK Member Account. It is advisable for Members to renew their verification documents to continue receiving the Match-Up contribution benefit. Failure to renew the document may affect the Member’s productivity period and subsequently impact their SPK Annuity calculation.

For SPK Self-Employed Members who were previously registered prior to SPK implementation can email the verification documents to selfemployed@tap.com.bn and to include your name and IC number in the email.

No, Self Employed SPK Member will continue using the same SPK account number used during their previous formal employment.

Yes, as long as you meet the registration criteria to be a Self-Employed SPK Member, you can register online via the e-Amanah portal. After successful registration, you will be given an SPK Member Account and can start contributing. By contributing the qualified contribution, you will receive the benefit of the Government's Match-Up contribution and will be considered productive.

Higher productivity will have a positive impact on the amount of annuity you will receive in the future.


Your membership status will automatically change when your employer registers you as an employee under their organization. You can provide your existing SPK Member Account Number to your employer for the registration process, and you can continue saving in your existing Member Account.

You will need to update your profile via the e-Amanah portal and submit your verification document via email to selfemployed@tap.com.bn and to include your name and IC number in the email.
